The Dog House

 HQ

Well, this WAS my hot little eclectic "contemporary/Indonesian appointed and influenced" dining room. Now it's the brain center for the new business...full of computers and machines and files and paperwork and nonsense like that. We have been sitting here entering days and days of data, trying to deal with the 85 vendors we have set up over our cell phones, watching miles and miles of errant receipt tape and price labels spit out all over the floor, and generally in awe and amazement over what it takes to start a new business. The living room is filling up with merchandise that vendors had to ship early because they are headed out to the trade show in Hong Kong this week.

The demolition, construction, and build-out is almost done at the store. We got all ornery with the construction crew today and re-affirmed that it has to be completed by the 2nd. (Ever dealt with contractors before? It's loads of fun) I do have to say that we really like our contractor...he's really into it and our concept...he's funny and hyper as hell, and a great guy. Pretty soon we will be able to move all this crap there and get it on. This 100 year old house will be glad.

Rex picked out his costume today for Halloween. He is going as Fonzie. Gracie is still deciding.

Peace yall. T

 Untie!

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar...and sometimes funny is just funny. Good lord, what happened to our sense of humor?

 Another Piece

Ah, those moments that spark your future self.
They come randomly I suppose.
Pieces of the puzzle fall into your lap.
You put them in your pocket...tuck them away in drawers.
You gather and fiddle with them nervously for years, twirl them between your fingers...
..until one day it hits you.

These are the pieces you were missing all along!
They were right there, pocketed and tucked away.
Damn...how could you be so smart and so dumb?

Like the time when Maurice paraded down the steps of the Starship on that smokey stage in 1976. Earth. Wind. Fire. All the elements were there. All that was missing was you.

Took you 30 years to really listen to the song, but it's cool. Never too late. You are a shining star.

 Happy Halloweeeeen!

I'm sure that part of the reason that I really dig Halloween is because of the comics that were out in the late sixties/early seventies when I was a kid. Granted, I liked Batman, Superman, The Fantastic Four, and even Richie Rich...but for me, the real pot of gold was when the horror comics appeared at Belvoir Drug Store when I was a kid. I would save up my allowance, race down the blocks on my bike and make sure I snagged the horror comics the second they hit the stands every month or so.

Creepy Magazine...out every two months in the late sixties/early seventies. The Holy Grail of horror comics! This was the original domain of the Crypt Keeper after all...sometimes even with vague illustrations of butts and titties. How cool was THAT to a kid in the late sixties/early seventies? (Very)

Famous Monsters of Filmland...awesome early seventies mag. It came out once a month when I was a kid, then publication dropped off to two or three times a years after that. Scarey...graphic..and awesome to my early seventies eyes. This is going to sound really silly, but I even wrote a letter to the publisher when I was 10 years old, asking them to let me know when another issue was coming out. Ok...I was a wierd kid.

Eerie Magazine...well...Eerie was sorta the budget version of Creepy Magazine back then. It was 60 cents, and Creepy was 75 cents. Those weeks when I was short on allowance, I would buy Eerie instead of Creepy. It was still scarey and cool, but not nearly as scarey and cool as Creepy Magazine. (Even at 10 years old, I already had a keen appreciation for production value...what a fag) LOL

Happy Halloween...and I hope you 40something boys out there got a kick out of this trip down memory lane.

The Man Who Sold The World

No real reason for this post. I'm coming down with a bug and feeling really crappy. It's cold and rainy here and I am feeling puny. I've been up and down from the bed all day and night...piddling and surfing and listening to David Bowie in the wee hours.

I've always thought this was a powerful and hauntingly beautiful song. I found this acoustic version (not the Nirvana cover...which was good too) on YouTube this morning. In this clip, you can tell how much Bowie loves performing this tune, as he is acting all giddy and boyish and excited when they begin playing it. I think he is a genius. The bass player Gail can't control her emotion at the end of it. This song still gives me chills.

This video captures an amazing live performance of it.
