My Futile And Fruitless Attempt To Coax A Coconut From A Tree On Vieques

Photobucket

There were other coconuts laying around all over the beach, with the ends chopped off...signs that other people had snagged them and had enjoyed some delicious coconut milk.

Photobucket

I tried knocking some down with some of the discarded ones.

Marc just sorta stood there watching me and giggling.

I tried knocking them down with branch.

I finally just said "Screw it"

 Hola From Puerto Rico

Rio Mar

Well, amigos e amigoettes...we finally made it to the island after a day of delays because of the snow up in Atlanta e Charlotte. Our luggage followed uno noches later.

(Note: While I est here, I am trying to use as many Spanish words as I comprehende...which is about ten)

Not mucho to reporte about the first 2...i mean "dos"...days...beaching/pooling/drinking and slowly getting used to being in chill mode and trying not to be so gringo.

We got out yesterday and went to San Juan and the Fiestas de la Calle de San Sebastián there last night. San Juan is an incredibly beautiful city.

Old San Juan

It got crazy in the streets as the festival was getting started. This party is sorta their version of Mardi Gras. We started the night at this awesome little tapas bar...

Tommy Marc Tapas Bar

We then realized that the only Spanish phrases that you actually need to get by here are....

A) Cerveza, por favor
B) Mojito, por favor

So anyways...they are still celebrating and decorating for Christmas full on here. I keep hearing that they actually don't break out the lights and decorations until Christmas Eve and then they leave them up until sometime before Lent. How cool is THAT? I love that. The streets and squares in Old San Juan were swimming in crazy fun Christmas lights and decorations last night. We had a BLAST.

Fiestas de la Calle de San Sebastián

Marc got some amazing pics at the festival.

Fiestas de la Calle de San Sebastián

At some point de la noches, Marc got a shot of me sampling some local food from a street vendor. They said it was chicken. I'm just going to assume it was chicken, ok. So aaaanyways...I was pretty trashed by then and it tasted really really really good. Like...you know...chicken.

Tastes like chicken

We explored around in the El Yunque rainforest today. It pisses me off just a bit that Marc doesn't look as hung-over as I do in this pic.

Tommy Marc Rain Forest

In conclusion...to my amigos e amigoettes back in snowy 19 degree Atlanta...

..."Na na na na na"

(I'm not sure how to translate that into Spanish)

 Happy New Year Part Deux

Photobucket

I don't know why this story caught my eye, but nonetheless, it's pretty sweet. The UK's oldest twins and the first babies born in the UK in 1908, Betty Richards and Jenny Pelmore, celebrated their 100th birthdays yesterday.

Here's a photo of them from from yesterday...

I love the story from The Daily Mail UK...

I've been really remiss about posting anything of any substance or anything funny for the past few weeks. I still have about 5 more weeks of crazy business stuff and travel to do, and things will settle down for a bit and I'll be back. The Dog House will be back up in full throttle by mid February. THANK YOU all for the wonderful comments and encouragement over the past few weeks. I'll get to visit my friends regularly again soon.

So anyways...we have a little trip to San Juan and Vieques squeezed in between the Atlanta and New York trade shows this month. I've never taken a vacation in the winter. The resort out on Vieques is supposed to be really remote and posh and fancy. I've NEVER EVER treated myself to something like that, but I figure..hell..it's about time. I figure Marc and I now deserve a few days of some hedonistic laziness and extreme tropical chill out after the past 2 years of 24/7 intensity and hard work we have directed into the business.

I realize and I appreciate how much God has blessed us in 2007. I'll never take that for granted.

So anyways...aside from all that...my current obssesive jam...

"Get Innocuous!" from LCD Soundsystem's sexy-as-all-get-out "Sounds of Silver"...which was probably THE best album released in 2007. Actually...2007 was a stellar year for music in general....Bruce Springsteen, MIA, White Stripes, Bebel Gilberto, Jay-Z, Amy Winehouse, Fatboy Slim, Arcade Fire, the reissued Getz/Gilberto and Herb Albert stuff...etc etc etc...

....when you actually stop to think about it...2007 was an awesome year for music.

 Happy New Year

"to laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. this is to have succeeded."
